Russell, McFadden return to practice

Russell, McFadden return to practice
The Raiders' problems on offense haven't been helped by a rash of injuries.

But two important pieces returned to practice Wednesday.

Quarterback JaMarcus Russell wore a brace on his right knee and was limited.

Also back on the field was running back Darren McFadden, who has missed three games with turf toe.

Russell expects to play Sunday in Miami. Interim coach Tom Cable said he expects the same.

"We'll give him a little bit more (today), see how it goes," Cable said. "But he felt pretty good (Wednesday)."

Russell said the brace keeps everything "tight" as he deals with tendinitis and a bone bruise.

Russell said Monday the pain in his knee caused discomfort throughout his leg and that he couldn't plant and push off the leg to throw.

He said he's gotten better, adding that taking a pain-killing injection isn't an option yet.

"As of right now, we haven't talked anything about that," Russell said. "If I can do anything to help my team, I'm going to do it."

Cable reported that McFadden "looked good" in limited action.

The Raiders' top wide receiver, Javon Walker, did not practice and is doubtful for Miami. Cable said more tests are being done on what was diagnosed as a sprained ankle suffered in Sunday's 17-6 loss to Carolina.

Ashley Lelie replaces Walker in the starting lineup, and Ronald Curry, who was inactive Sunday, will dress for the game, too.

The Raiders' other starting wide receiver, Chaz Schilens (ankle), was limited in practice.

More injuries -- Defensive end Derrick Burgess (triceps) was limited in his first practice since Oct. 6.

Burgess, who has led or tied for the team lead in sacks the last three seasons, has missed five games with the injury.

The Raiders have had 12 sacks in four games with Burgess and nine in five games without him.

Backup quarterback Andrew Walter (ankle) and linebacker Ricky Brown (groin) were held out of practice.

Walter was injured Sunday, and Brown has missed the last two games. Sam Williams started for Brown last week.

Transactions -- The Raiders claimed kick returner-cornerback Justin Miller off waivers from the New York Jets and waived tight end John Madsen for the second time this season.

Miller was a Pro Bowl kick returner in 2006.

Oakland also signed quarterback Jeff Otis to the practice squad.
