Peterson glad for special teammates
Adrian Peterson can thank Alex Brown and Robbie Gould for making his week a lot easier.

If Brown had not blocked a field goal and if Gould had not nailed the 38-yard, game-winning field goal in overtime Monday night, the postgame talk might have focused on Peterson's 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty for dragging down Packers kick returner Will Blackmon out of bounds. The flag helped set up Mason Crosby's 38-yard field-goal attempt near the end of regulation, the one Brown thwarted.

"It was a good call, but it wasn't on purpose," Peterson said of the penalty. "On the sideline, it was pretty slippery. I've been in the league seven years and that's my first or second personal foul. It wasn't anything to be dirty or anything on purpose."

Now it's a matter of how the league views it. Peterson could be fined $5,000 or more after a league review.

In the running: Now that Matt Forte has surpassed Anthony Thomas for the most rushing yards by a Bears rookie (1,188), Forte's next step might be finishing as the league's top rookie rusher. He trails Chris Johnson of the Titans by 40 yards and is 2 yards behind Steve Slaton of the Texans. Forte will face a Texans team ranked 25th in run defense, allowing 126.2 rushing yards per game.

Johnson finishes against the Colts' 23rd-ranked run defense, while Slaton goes against the Bears, fourth-best in the league at stopping the run.

Extra points: Safety Mike Brown (calf), linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer and defensive back Marcus Hamilton (ankle injuries) and running back Kevin Jones (hamstring) all will be re-evaluated as the week progresses. Cornerback Charles Tillman also injured his ankle against the Packers but returned, leaving coach Lovie Smith with little concern about his availability. ... Smith on Alex Brown's fifth career interception against the Packers: "Seems like he has gotten more than most defensive linemen get. That was a big one for him."

After the coaches reviewed the film, Corey Graham and Kevin Payne led the way with nine tackles each against the Packers. Lance Briggs remains the team leader with 127 tackles followed by Payne's 121.
