PLAYER NOTES

--S Michael Huff didn't finish the game because of a stinger, but the injury is not expected to be an issue this week.

--WR Chaz Schilens has developed Achilles tendinitis to go along with his sprained ankle. He'll be day-to-day this week, meaning Ronald Curry will likely start again opposite Ashley Lelie.

--C Jake Grove is day-to-day with a calf strain but said he expects to play this week against Kansas City.

--LB Ricky Brown (groin) is day-to-day, and his status will become more clear Wednesday. If he can practice in a limited fashion, Brown could reclaim his starting job at strongside linebacker.

--DE Derrick Burgess was rusty after missing the previous six games with a torn right triceps. He had two tackles but came through without worsening the injury.

REPORT CARD VS. BRONCOS

PASSING OFFENSE: B-plus -- JaMarcus Russell passed only 11 times, but he completed 10 for 152 yards and a touchdown, a 4-yard strike to Ashley Lelie off his back foot into a small window. The other key completion was by FB Michael Bush for 8 yards, converting a third-and-4. Lelie had four receptions for 92 yards, Zach Miller three for 41. Russell did not come close to having an interception, and the protection was excellent -- he was not sacked.

RUSHING OFFENSE: B-plus -- Justin Fargas struggled early but came on late. He got the bulk of his 107 yards (on 24 carries) with a 67-yard, 10-carry fourth quarter, as the Raiders held the ball for more than 11 minutes in the final period. Darren McFadden had two 1-yard touchdown runs and rushed for 38 yards on 10 carries. The Raiders rushed for 158 yards on 41 attempts.

PASS DEFENSE: A -- No sacks of Jay Cutler, but the Broncos quarterback who sliced up the Raiders in Week 1 was disrupted by the Raiders' varying pressures and couldn't seem to figure out the coverages, going 16-for-37 for 204 yards. Thomas Howard had a fourth-quarter interception that led to a Raiders touchdown, and Chris Johnson held up well in coverage as Cutler avoided Nnamdi Asomugha. Eddie Royal, who had nine catches for 146 yards in Week 1, had two for 14 in the rematch.

RUSH DEFENSE: B -- Oakland gave up too much ground to Peyton Hillis early, even allowing the converted fullback to get outside on occasion. Hillis finished with 17 carries for 77 yards, even with a 4-yard loss recorded by Jon Alston on the Broncos' first play from scrimmage. Tatum Bell got nowhere (six carries for 14 yards). The defensive linemen held their ground and allowed linebackers and S Gibril Wilson to adequately fill gaps.

SPECIAL TEAMS: A -- Johnnie Lee Higgins' 89-yard punt return came when he angled to his left to field the kick, catching it on the run and tight-roping the sideline. He got blocks from Todd Watkins and Chris Johnson. When he got a 15-yard penalty for doing a back flip in the end zone, Sebastian Janikowski rendered it meaningless by hammering the ensuing kickoff to the goal line. Shane Lechler averaged 58.7 yards on three punts with a 45.7 net. The Broncos did little of note on returns.

COACHING: A -- It's hard to fault anything the Raiders did. Interim coach Tom Cable varied his use of formations and position groups (helped by a full-strength McFadden). His willingness to listen paid off on the first offensive touchdown, with McFadden lobbying for the pitch that broke a 15-quarter streak of no touchdowns on offense. Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, who took heat for the way the Raiders played against Denver in Week 1, deserves credit for devising a plan to throw Cutler off his game despite the Broncos' propensity for max protection. With only an exception or two, Brian Schneider's special teams have been the Raiders' most productive units all season.
