With coach Lane Kiffin gone, Greg Knapp will take over play-calling duties, with Cable overseeing the big picture.
Knapp and Cable worked together in Atlanta under Jim Mora. Davis said that during the Raiders 28-18 loss to San Diego, a game in which JaMarcus Russell went 22-for-37 for 277 yards, Knapp actually called plays for a time.
Kiffin had been the lone play-caller up to that point.
Davis was critical of Kiffin's conservatism, comparing the Raiders' second half against Buffalo, when they attempted three passes, as being like "Woody Hayes."
