TEAM NEEDS

1. Safety: When asked about the lack of candidates at safety, coach Tom Cable immediately invoked the name of Tyvon Branch. A fourth-round pick last year, Branch had a broken thumb and surgery on his shoulder, limiting his game experience. The Raiders need help here. Lots of it.

2. Offensive tackle: Cornell Green's arrest and age means this remains an area of need even with the acquisitions of Erik Pears and Khalif Barnes. Cable cited tackle as a top priority.

3. Wide receiver: As much as they like the potential of third-year receiver Johnnie Lee Higgins and second-year player Chaz Schilens, the Raiders could use a playmaker for JaMarcus Russell. Could be a draft pick (Michael Crabtree, Jeremy Maclin). If they're looking to add a veteran in a big trade, Braylon Edwards and Anquan Boldin are potentially available.
