--Free safety Michael Huff, who struggled for two years as a miscast strong safety, had his worst game as a free safety against San Diego.
Huff was a virtual no-show on the stat sheet, not listed with a tackle, assist or credited with a play of any type in the defensive stats.
He could be seen misplaying angles and tackles as the last possible defender on touchdown runs by LaDainian Tomlinson of 13 and 41 yards.
"Michael had his least productive game of the season," coach Lane Kiffin said. "Missed three or four tackles and ended up not having any tackles in the game. As well as we played on defense, this wasn't one of Michael's better games. I know Michael will come in this week and work extremely hard to get back to the way he was playing the first three games this season."
--Defensive lineman Terdell Sands, who was out of shape and unproductive after signing a four-year contract extension before the 2007 season, has played up to the standard the Raiders expected in the last two games.
Sands had two sacks against the Chargers and consistently collapsed the pocket at the point of attack against center Nick Hardwick, who he outweighs by at least 50 pounds.
"Sands had his best game since he's been with us," Kiffin said. "He pressured the passer and made it difficult for the Chargers to run the ball."
--Kiffin has enough to worry about without concerning himself with the unpredictable landscape of the AFC West. A Denver team which humiliated the Raiders was beaten decisively but a Chiefs team the Raiders dominated.
"You can't say, well, Denver lost to Kansas City, then we beat Kansas City, so maybe we're better than Denver. Or that New England and Kansas City went down to the wire, so we're better than New England," Kiffin said. "That doesn't mean anything, so I don't sit around doing that. We've got enough things going on with ourselves."
