It's good to see that doing the right thing occasionally pays off.

I used to somewhat regularly appear on John Thompson's radio show before I was forced into exposing his youngest son as an unethical, whiny wimp. I like Big John and love his show. People in D.C. respect Big John and will come on his show and hash out their problems in a real way.

Mitchell, the former Redskins return specialist, exposes the real Clinton Portis. It's a humorous and sad picture. The U obviously stands for "uneducated."

2. Let's don't get carried away anointing USC as one of the all-time great teams or as the team that stands clearly above every other in college football.

The Trojans may indeed be the best team in September, but beating up an overrated Ohio State squad is not proof that the Trojans will be the best in October and November. The burden of hype and L.A. celebrity will bite USC during the Pac-10 season.

1. Getting fired before the end of the season would be the best thing that could happen to Lane Kiffin.

He doesn't want to be anywhere near the scene of the crime when people start assigning blame for the JaMarcus Russell debacle. It blows my mind that Russell was the No. 1 pick in the draft two years ago. I've never seen any quarterback stare down one receiver the way Russell did in Oakland's victory over the Chiefs.
