Raiders Practice Touchdown Celebrations Just in Case It Actually Happens in a Game

Filed under: Raiders, AFC WestPractice makes perfect. It’s cliched but so are the Raiders at this point. Whatever, the team is using valuable practice time to work on touchdown celebrations. You know, just in case it actually happens in a game. The thinking: fake it till you make it. Or some equally silly platitude. It’s the latest ploy by interim coach Tom Cable to coax some good vibes out of an offense that has been field-goal happy most of the season as the Raiders prepare to host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

“Now we do a thing in practice, where guys run to the end zone,” quarterback JaMarcus Russell said. “Or we make it in the end zone, as far as the offense, (we) congratulate those guys, get used to doing it. The more you get used to it, the more you’ll be better with it on the field, as a team.” Hopefully, there’s none of this going on, because that would make Commissar Goodell very, very, VERY sad.

As for Cable’s latest ploy to convince the Raiders that they can actually score touchdowns (the offense has managed just nine through the first eight weeks, good for last in the league), why not? I mean, it can’t hurt, right?

And as long as Oakland is randomly trying stuff in the hopes that it takes, how about pretending that DeAngelo Hall doesn’t get burned on every pass thrown his way? That guy could really use a confidence boost right about now. I know, it’s shocking.
